Clinical Supervision

Welcome to the beginning of what will hopefully be an enriching and stimulating journey in your career as a social worker!

Supervision is more than just a means to an end….it is a relationship, a process, a commitment and a gift to both your clients and yourself. Finding the right supervisor for you is important. Goodness-of-fit between Supervisor and Licensee is critical for a positive experience, and I welcome you to reach out to see if working together is consistent with your individual needs.

As a Clinical Supervisor, I see my role as one walking beside you and cheering your successes and helping to re-direct when things go astray.  I am a sounding board for ideas, for dilemmas, for assurance.  I will sit with you in laughter and in tears. We will tackle ethical issues and lots of discomfort. My hope is that in the end, we will both be better because of our time together.

Please initiate contact with me via my "Supervision Inquiry" form once you have reviewed the Board requirements for clinical supervision. Information and application forms for Supervision can be found here: https://www.bhec.texas.gov/

Approach

I became a Board Approved Supervisor in 2021 and have taken two Supervision Courses, one with Tammy Linseisen at UT Austin School of Social Work and another with Carly Basset on starting an ethical supervision practice. I am committed to enhancing my supervision practice by attending relevant continuing education offerings and seeking my own supervision and consultation.

My work and life are so very full, and I have enjoyed a variety of experiences in my first decade as a social worker. As a mother and social worker, I am constantly seeking the best balance for my life and being mindful of ways to care for myself so I can be present for my family, my clients, and my supervisees.

I am a firm believer in time off and time away, as well as time alone. I hope to model good self-care practices for my supervisees and keep self-care as a crucial topic in supervision. I love being a social worker and hope to be a supervisor that embodies true social work values and ethics in my practice, including the necessary and uncomfortable work of dismantling oppressive and harmful bias and systems, even the ones our profession has been built on.

Investment

Supervision is a flat fee of $300.00 per month. This is in exchange for supervision hours, expertise, licensure, professional development, as well as training techniques.

This fee also covers the supervisee’s spot in my supervision calendar, which includes four hours of direct supervision per month. It also includes four (4) make-up sessions to be utilized during the supervision period as needed. Any make-up sessions needed beyond the 4 grace sessions will be billed at a rate of $75.00/hr.

Other important details:

  • 100 hours of supervision is required for 3,000 work hours, which shall occur over a period of at least 24 months

  • Supervisees are required to carry professional liability insurance for the duration of the supervision.

  • For Supervised Clinical Experience to be Acceptable: Each practice location must encompass the role of social work.  At least one practice location must provide the Supervisee a minimum of four hours per week of direct clinical practice, gaining competency using specialized clinical knowledge and advanced skills to assess, diagnose, and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, conditions, and addictions. Treatment methods must include individual, marital, couple, family, and group psychotherapy.

  • The simplest way to determine if a job description meets the minimum requirements for developing competency in clinical social work is to ask:  "Will this individual, based on social work experience in this job, be competent to provide psychotherapy in independent practice upon completion of the supervised experience?”
